 Chicago Jazz Festival

Chicago Jazz Festival – is all about celebrating the workmen’s holiday on Labor Day. The compositions of jazz musicians will be featured with a rearview of Chicago’s architectural allure. It is the last opportunity to be-bop to the smooth sounds of musical compilations by the Denny Zeitlin Trio with Buster Williams as well as Matt Wilson. This year’s jazz event will be commemorating the 70th anniversary of Down Beat magazine at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra on Thursday night.

Pack a blanket for the free show that kicks off on Friday in Grant Park at 11am. Jazz icons will be performing an awe-inspiring show. Regardless of what time you arrive at the Chicago Jazz Festival, shows and performances will happen throughout the day at various stages: Jazz on Jackson Stage, Jazz & Heritage Family Stage and the Petrillo Music Shell.

For art lovers in quest of unusual troves, an art fair will be tucked away in the botanical confines of the rose garden (south of Jackson). All ages will be astounded by a 20-something troupe of musicians who will be playing with the legendary performance of Roy Haynes who will be celebrating his 80th birthday. Haynes’s residencies include working with the following artists John Coltrane, Sarah Vaughan and Lester Young to name a few.

Event Tip: To quench your thirst be sure to break away from the fine melodies at the Jackson Boulevard wine garden. A wide array of refreshments and sweet delights will be available for your consumption pleasure.
