The Chicago Improv Festival is back for its ninth year of free festival events that take place throughout the Chicago Cultural Center. Lunchtime programs will have everyone giggling all week long in the Randolph Café. The acts change daily, with improvisation troupes coming in from all over the world. Introduce your kids to the hilarity that ensues when improvisation is launched by some brilliantly funny people. Evening programs are available as well, and include improvised solo performances by area artists such as poets, video artists and dancers. The event ties into the Bodies of Work program focuses on disability arts and culture. Signers and deaf improvisationalists are also part of the family-friendly line up.
What a great chance to teach your kids about diversity and different abilities as well as humor and why it matters so much in our daily lives. The combination of adversity and laughter can be a life lesson best learned young, and one that provides great entertainment and fun as well as something a little educational.
